Above is the usual format of our Thursday meetings. We meet in the Indiana University Memorial
Union Building. The doors open at 11:30 a.m. and buffet is served until 12:15. The
meeting starts at 12:15 followed by the speaker. We adjourn promptly at 1 p.m. Each Program
Chair strives to book interesting, topical and educational speakers.
Bloomington Kiwanis Club Traditions
Singing – In the spirit of fellowship, one singalong is conducted each week. Some weeks we
sing well and some weeks we don’t, but it is always done in good humor and with a sense of
Fines – To help fund our youth programs, nominal fines are levied with good humor. If you forget
to wear your pin or badge to a meeting, the fine is 25¢; if your photo appears in a newspaper or
you appear on TV and your pin is not visible, the fine is 50¢; and fellow members may levy a fine
if you do a blooper at a meeting.
Happy Dollars – Members may present a Happy Dollar at any meeting. These may mark a
wedding anniversary, birth of a child or grandchild, your birthday, a job promotion or other good
Inter Clubs – From time to time, four or more members travel to other Kiwanis Clubs in the area
to visit on their meeting day.
50/50 Deck of Cards Raffle – Each week an optional raffle is held. The tickets are $1 or 3 for
$2. The winner gets double their money back and draws from a deck of cards. If the Joker is
picked, they win the jackpot. Each week, 50% of the proceeds go to our youth program fund and
50% is added to the jackpot until it is won and then we start over!
